I purchased this drive from JR because of this description: "The smartly engineered design allows for heat dissipation and near-silent, fanless operation." This drive is actually quite loud: the spinning disk is about as loud as actually having a fan, and I've been trying to find ways to hide the think under my desk to reduce the noise. Considering returning to JR and finding another solution. Also, when it spins up or down from sleep mode, the clicking noise is pretty annoying as well.

Re: 1 TB LaCie Hard Disk, Design by Neil Poulton
Hey, i Think your blog is good!! It’s a full terabyte of storage, so you’ll have ample space for all your files. The Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port makes it a workhorse. Usability is a breeze. The setup is effortless, because it’s plug & play.

Re: 1 TB LaCie Hard Disk, Design by Neil Poulton

Bought one, it crashed within a week. Exchanged it for the same thing, the second one was broken right out of the box. I gave up after that. There are plenty of 1 TB external hard drives at this price, and most any of them are better than this. Unless you want a really pretty box to sit on your desk and do nothing.

Re: 1 TB LaCie Hard Disk, Design by Neil Poulton

Does it have to be horizontal or can it be vertical?

Re: 1 TB LaCie Hard Disk, Design by Neil Poulton

Shoe Shop : Buy shoes online from UK shoe shop Shudoo.

Re: 1 TB LaCie Hard Disk, Design by Neil Poulton

wow

Re: 1 TB LaCie Hard Disk, Design by Neil Poulton

I'm totally inlove with this drive..

Perhaps you should look into a NAS (Networked Attached Storage) unit for that purpose. It will be more efficient.

I recommend the Buffalo Linkstation Mini.

Re: 1 TB LaCie Hard Disk, Design by Neil Poulton

This drive sucks for continuous use. It looks good. It's not that quiet for one, and two, It will unexpectedly unmount itself and just sit there spinning and thinking about nothing. I'm using it to store my 400GB iTunes music library. It just can't handle it. I exchanged the first one I bought thinking it may have been a faulty unit, but the same model replacement it acting the same way. Not worth it. Maybe it would be fine to store movies or photos on, but not continuous music play, from a large library.
