blog.jr.com: Nikon’s D60 is the Perfect Intro to DSLRs

  • susan · 1 year ago
can i change lenses with this camera and what lenses do you recommend
  • Nick Scribner · 1 year ago
Thanks for writing, Susan. The D60 is a DSLR, which means you can use any lens with a Nikon mount. However, the D60 will only autofocus with AF-S lenses (which are what most people use today).

As for lenses, the D60 kits are a good way to go. For example, the 18-55mm is an excellent kit lens. However, if you are looking for more zooming range you may want to get the more expensive Nikon 18-200mm, which is highly acclaimed. Also, you may consider getting a Nikon 55-200mm or 70-300mm in addition to the 18-55mm.

    Best,
    Nick

Can I use Nikkor lenses that I use with my F3 on a D60?
  • Nick Scribner · 1 year ago
The D60 is not the best camera if you will be using old, manual film lenses. It only auto-focuses with AF-S lenses and will not meter with manual lenses. If you are looking for full Nikon lens compatibility, and you are willing to spend $1K more, the D300 is the way to go.

You think this camera help me.. and my budget is around 600 usd....

What is your opinion or How about D40X

    Vinnie ; )

pd sorry for my english ; )

Vinnie, the D40X will suit you just fine. If cost is a big issue, the D40 will work for you too. There is very little difference between the D60 and the D40X.

Yeah, the D60 accepts the same lenses as the D40.

Is there a recovery lag when using the built-in flash? Seemed worse than my point & shoot in the demo camera I saw today at my local store.

hi, i am a beginner, so do u think the D60 fits me ,or i should find some lower model ,like D40 thanks
  • Atane · 1 year ago
Sean, either choice is fine and more than adequate for a beginner. However, if budget is an issue, then I wholeheartedly recommend the D40.

I just purchased the D60 with the 18-55mm lens and would like to get a UV filter, but I can't find a marking on the lens that tells me which size filter it takes, and there seem to be many. IS there somewhere on the lens that indicates the proper filter size? If not, do you know which filter size that lens takes?
  • Atane · 1 year ago
David, the size should be stamped on the inside of the lens cap, or written on the ring around the front of the lens, preceded by a diameter size in 'mm'. The diameter mark is a circle with a line through it. Should look like this.

Mine is a D40x, and my daughter wants it. I'm considering buying a new one, so what is the difference between d40x and d60. Thank you.

I've been doing event photography for free on my sons soccer games and am trying to get into this already bloated market(or so those who are in it say so) and need a good zoom for soccer fields for a D40X or D60. A D90 would be my dream, but it'll have to wait.
