Will the VRD-MC5 allow transfer of tapes from a l991 Sony camcorder?
  • O.P. · 1 year ago
Is this machine as "easy to use" as you describe? My VCR is relatively new (standard input/output). In order to use USB, would an adapter work just as well? I have many VHS tapes, which are taking up much too much space and I'd like to rid myself of them.

Sure, this item is very easy to use and connects to most camcorders and vcr's with little effort. As long as your source component has an audio/video output setup and operation is a breeze.

I have an old Sharp ViewCam (Hi8) VL-AD260. Will I be able to transfer the tape to the DVD?
  • Larone Stevens · 1 year ago
Hi Mr. Tsang, as long as your camcorder has an audio/video output transferring your video to DVD will be a breeze. The VRDMC5 has composite and s-video inputs that accept analog video.

I have PAL tapes, as well as NTSC. I do not mind playback on DVD only being NTSC, but does anyone know if it will transcribe PAL to the DVD?

I currently have a lot of steps to go through to go VCR to DVD on a dual
Sylvania device, IF I want to play the DVDs on anything other than that device. Will the ouput DVD on this device alow me to play the DVD on my PC, other DVD players, etc.

    My question re this device:
My vcr is a panasonic vhs ag-1720 with se[arate video and audio output jacks. Can this be attached to the device?
  • Eric E. Wilson · 1 year ago
How about this one...basically I'm looking for a VCR type unit where I can turn it on, it will record what ever I am feeding it and then play it back instantly. I want to be able to turn on my Hi8 camera and feed the image into the recorder. Can I do this? And do I then need to finalize or is that occurring as it is recording.

When using a live signal from a camcorder DV output, is it possible to pause and resume recording a DVD with the Sony VRD-MC5 DVDirect MC5 Multi-Function DVD Recorder? Also does the unit create a starting thumbnail menu allowing one to name the disc?

    Hi,

I recently purchashed Panasonic HD DVD Camcorder. Can I transfer HD DVD from Panasonice HD DVD Camcorder? I have no technical skill.
  • Larone Stevens · 1 year ago
This unit will allow you to back-up video from an HD camcorder. If your camcorder records in the AVCHD HDD format you can transfer the video on to disc. The VRD-MC5 handles up to to 1080i and stores the information in H.264 format on a DVD for use in most Bluray players.

Purchased this recorder from this site and am thrilled. Works like a charm. For anybody who had been doing dvd recording or uses as a backup for recording sessions, this machine works great. Does not have turner or will not playback as a source machine, but as a stand-alone recorder, it is what I have been searching for. Have used for 5 remote sessions which require 6 dvd's per session (as SP speed), not one hiccup.... pre-format dvd (takes about 1 minute) - hit record and you're recording. Hit record and you've paused. If you need chapter points, hit stop, then record again and you're off. Finalizing takes about the same as any other recorder I've used. I have just ordered three more.

this is a great device. It connects to any camcorder and easily lets you transfer the information on the tape to DVD format. You can add a scene marker every 5 10 or 15 minutes for quick scanning during playback. It is almost like making a tape copy, but you do have to finalize the DVD for playback at the end. The little screen has really easy menus to follow. It is idiot proof. I have also used it to copy DVR recordings onto DVD for future viewing.
If you have a Sony camcorder with a DV output, the DVDIRECT talks to the camcorder and controls it with automatically rewinding etc.
It is nearly idiot proof. Great product. I am loving this thing.
When you look at the cost of tape to DVD transfer, this is a bargain, and really so easy to use yourself.

Sony's site says "1080/24p Input Capable : x1" -- what does that mean? Is that garble-speak for 1080i? So does that mean that it will record at 1920x1080? At what frame rate? And since DVD's only go up to 852x480 (?), how do they store it on the DVD? Files? What format?

If this is as good as it sounds, it's a real bargain!

I have a bunch of 8mm tapes that i would like to transfer to DVD. Unfortunately the Sony camcorder I used to make the films does not work anymore. What do I have to do? Is there another machine that has a built in 8mm play back in it?
  • Lee · 1 year ago
    Input(s) : x1 (L/R) Audio

    Not stereo??????
  • sanny mendoza · 1 year ago
Is the device capable in recording TV broadcast and has a timer to record such program? When copying a DVD is the audio 5.1 be identical to the new copy?
  • Atane · 1 year ago
Dusty Chalk, 1080/24p mean 1080 lines of resolution by 24 frames per. second. It will go up to 1080i.

With regards to formats, it is MPEG-2 for standard DVD and AVC/H.264 AVCHD recording only on a DVD for playback.
  • Atane · 1 year ago
Charlo, this site should help you with transferring 8mm to DVD.

  • Atane · 1 year ago
Lee, that is stereo. (L/R) = Left and Right = stereo.
  • Atane · 1 year ago
Sanny, you can record tv broadcasts by connecting it to your DVR, and it is 5.1 capable.

The DVD that this device burn can play with any regular dvd player? I have a lot of VHS tape wanted to convert, so just simply connect my old VCR to that device with those red, white & yellow cable isn't it? What about if connect TV to this device? Will it record TV program directly?
  • jack · 8 months ago
Why is it that devices like the Sony rdr-hx dvd with hard drive recorders are so tough to find? They seem like an optimal solution to recording not just your old vhs tapes, if you already have a vhs player, but also a means of recording television programming directly to a hard drive. For some reason no one seems to sell them though?

Can you make copies of the DVD's you have made after you are done with the transfer?
I will want to make copies for family.
