I'd like to disagree with Nick. This is a blog about new products and it does a decent job of explaining the intent behind the eee pc 900 to some of the people that may not know very much about the newly emerging low cost ultra mobile laptop market.

haters are a dime a dozen. keep doing what you do J&R.

Why does J&R not have these in stock? I ordered from you because you were one of the first to put up for preorder now other stores have been selling them since Monday and you still don't have them. I would have ordered from somewhere else and had it by Wednesday now I will be lucky to have it sometime next week. Why are you so much slower than others to receive shipments?

i feel exactly the same way as NC47. Very disappointed that J&R has been slower with my order than the competitors. I ordered mine on Saturday at 1pm. Status? Backordered. Very sad customer.

There certainly is a lot of excitement over these Asus devices. Our buyers are working feverishly to get these in. Most sites don't list the 900 series yet, but we decided to present it as a pre-order. We hope to have them soon. Your patience and understanding is most appreciated!

That's not a good answer. I could have ordered this item from Newegg on Monday and had it, same with buy.com, and there are many others who have had it on sale since Monday. My money is tied up with J&R now so I have to just wait it out. I think J&R should do the same thing Newegg does, offer the item only when it is in stock or give the option of a notification when it comes in. That is why Newegg is tops, making customers wait on a highly anticipated item like this when other vendors have been selling it for 4 days already is not good for your business. If I were J&R I would find something extra to give to those who have this on preorder because those customers know they are getting the shaft on this deal.

How can you disagree with what I had previously stated (knicksdefense)? This blog does nothing more than explain what the product description already tells you. There is nothing extra contributed through this article, rendering it pointless. The blog gives the specs and that's about it. There is not even an opinion given on the actual using of the device.

J and R needs to do a better job clarifying the differences among the ABSURD number of eeepc models and flavors!

And more clarity in terms of processors differences, and some straight talk about underclocking etc. I got burned on the 701 last year -- sad to see that Asus and its retailers have only added to the confusion since then.

Nick, it tells you what it can do, it tells you what it can't do. after you look at the specs on the other page, the only way you're going to get more familiar with the device is with video or actually going to the store and testing one out.

hey, I'm glad we're all commenting on this blog. maybe it will let J&R know just how important it is that the get these to us as soon as they can..........

You don't take payment but you put a request in for funds which makes the money unavailable in customers account. If an order is cancelled with you it takes 3 days for the money to be available in an account. I used debit for this which means it is in authorization so $549 is unavailable for me to buy this elsewhere.

I just got notified that J&R has a limited supply and first com-first served. I want to know which battery I will get- the 4400mAh or 5800mAh. It seems to make a difference.

I'm waiting for black 20 GB. Any idea when we might see it? I've heard the UK has theirs. I know it doesn't make any difference to J&R whether you sell me a 900 or an msi Wind, but it might matter to Asus!

The new eee 901 is on it's way in June. Has an Atom processor and will be offered in a 10" screeen size. It also will not be branded with ASUS but rather "eee PC" which would indicate Asus is pushing it as it's own brand. No price has been set yet.

I have learned my lesson when a new, "hot" item comes out....Rather than attempt to order online, only to find out three days later that is it is backordered, I order by phone directly from the vendor, asking if the item is in stock for immediate delivery. J&R has always been honest with me and only told me that it is "in stock" if it actually is in stock. Living in Connecticut, I usually get my order the day after I telephone order it.

I to am very dissapointed with J&R's inability to deliver a product like they should have. If you want compete with amazon and buy.com, you have to be as reliable, and J&R have proved that they are not. You have simply failed to deliver.

Warning: When they expect to get it, and when they will actually deliver it may vary by a few weeks.

Also, just because you have a preorder doesn't mean that you will get priority on it, they would rather just sell it to people off the street.

i got my eee pc 900 thanks to j&r, the best there is.

also, i got mine directly for 1 park row J&R in NYC, it came with the 5800 mAh battery, take that to the bank.

the black one would have been nice but I can't wait that long and I'm really digging the white thus far, my dell inspiron 8100 was black enough for the past 7 years, time for something different, something truly portable.

the ONLY problem I have with it so far is the webcam application that is stock on the Linux version is pure crap. I am 99% certain this is a software problem because the XP version on the floor at J&R had a beautfully working webcam. i'm not a big fan of the ogg vorbis video codec, and it is only a matter of time before I swap this thing out to Ubuntu in any case, I'm sure they've got several webcam apps in their repos.

just don't have time to do that right now, so I'll stick with the xandros and continue to write asus complaints hoping they'll make an update...

Doris: It does not come with a case or cover. However, portable DVD sleeves have been known to fit quite well.
